Many of the cases of identified leprosy and disabilities can not remain at home due to social stigma and thus results in family rejection. Therefore residential facilities are provided whenever they can not stay at home. Sumanahalli has the potential to house 120 inmates for leprosy at a time, and 50 for other disabilities
We have both community-based rehabilitation (CBR) and institutional rehabilitation (IBR) at sumanahalli.
Our recovery model is completely exceptional. With our 43 years of experience in the area of leprosy and disability, we take care of the psychological , social, medical, educational, economic and spiritual needs of people with disabilities and the affected leprosy
While we do provide them with residential treatment, our aim is to return to the community and live in the community as a dignified person. Keeping this in mind, different interventions are structured so that they can go beyond the recovery process and other empowerment programmes. We treat a case as complete only when they can settle back to their habitat and they can handle their lives without relying on sumanahalli
